Use Your Vintage Sewing Machine

Once you’ve repaired and restored your vintage sewing machine, you’ll want to start stitching with it. Join me in Use Your Vintage Sewing Machine to create 2 practical projects: a Table Topper and an Extension Bed Cozy* that you can use with your vintage sewing machine. *Note: This is for a Singer 221 or 222 sewing machine.

A vintage sewing machine is a reliable, dependable sewing machine that stitches beautifully and will last you a lifetime. While it looks beautiful, it is meant to be used. With this in mind I created the course Use Your Vintage Sewing Machine to give you the opportunity to both use your vintage sewing machine and also create something practical for your vintage sewing machine.

In Use Your Vintage Sewing Machine I take you step-by-step through using your machine to make a Table Topper and an Extension Bed Cozy that you can use to protect your machine or the cabinet it came in. The patterns for both projects are included in the course so you can print them out and stitch along with me.

Here is what’s included in Use Your Vintage Sewing Machine:

  • Table Topper – Learn how to make a table topper that you can use to protect your machine or the cabinet it came in with step-by-step instructions from Kim. The pattern for the table topper is included as a pdf.
  • Featherweight Bed Extension Cozy - You'll learn how to make a cozy to protect the extension bed on the Singer Featherweight 221 or 222 model machines. Stitch along with Kim as she takes you step-by-step through this process. The pattern for the Featherweight bed extension cozy is included as a pdf.

The course is designed around videos that go into detail on how to create both these projects. While there is no better way to learn about vintage sewing machines than by seeing them in action, Use Your Vintage Sewing Machine also includes a guide. The guide provides all the information from the videos  in written form in case you would rather learn by reading. You can print out the guide or view it online – the choice is yours. The patterns for both projects are included in pdf format which can be downloaded and printed out, if you wish to do so.

The best way to view the content is through the on-line course because the software presents the information in a logical format that will keep you on track, however all the videos, patterns, and guides can be downloaded so that you can keep them forever. The section further down this page contains the curriculum for the course and samples of what you will see when you purchase the course.

I talk a lot about vintage SINGER® sewing machines in the course. The concepts that I teach you will apply to any vintage sewing machine but I prefer to focus on SINGER® because of the number of machines and spare parts that are available. I would recommend that anyone who is just starting to purchase vintage sewing machines limit their search to SINGER® models.

It won’t be long before you are ready to get one of your own.

I’m thrilled to share Use Your Vintage Sewing Machine with you and I know that you will enjoy learning all about vintage sewing machine.
